Abstract : In the present study, oxide layer was formed on zirconium substrate by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO). The zirconia nanoparticles were incorporated in to the PEO coating structure by the electrophoretic deposition process (EPD). The coating was produced in an alkaline phosphate electrolyte with a time period of 6min. The microstructural features, phase composition, wettability properties and corrosion behavior were analyzed. The nanoparticle incorporation substantially modifies the surface morphology. The thickness of the coating found to be increased with the particle addition. Wettability also enhanced. The electrochemical corrosion studies indicate that the nanoparticle addition very well enhanced the corrosion resistance properties of the coating. © 2019 Author(s).
