Abstract : In this paper, we intend to optimize the cross-layer design in wireless networks to avoid the congestions and packet losses between the network nodes. The conventional TCP used in wired network cannot be adapted to wireless networks as it is. By considering this fact a novel congestion control algorithm is developed with the modified acknowledgement aggregating model to avoid packet losses and for congestion control in the network. The major reason for packet losses is due to high bit error rate in the networks. Instead of invoking a congestion control mechanism after a packet loss, the proposed cross layer mechanism uses the cross layer feedback from the above and below layers, which improves the TCP performance. TCP Reno-2 model has been used for the simulation purpose and the performance of the proposed system is evaluated in terms of end-to-end delay and end-to-end throughput of the system.
