Abstract : Three-phase shunt active power filters are designed to effectively compensate for the current harmonics and reactive power requirements in a three-phase system with harmonic loads. An ANN (artificial neural network) based controller selects the amount of harmonic current injection based on the percentage of harmonic distortion present in the source current and also on the reactive power requirement of the load. The selection is done by the ANN with the help of a properly tuned knowledge base. © 2008 IEEE.
