Give Today 2017, a hair donation campaign for cancer patients organized by the Department of Communication, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore on 11thof March 2017 will be flagged off by popular South Indian and Bollywood playback singer and actor, Vijay Yesudas.
For the first time, the Department of Communication is joining hands with a local NGO called Hairband, the Varghese Moolan Foundation and the Naturals, a professional saloon, to conduct the event. Give Today 2017 is hosted by post graduate students of the department as part of their curriculum requirement, under the guidance of course instructor Aswathi K. B. at the main grounds of the institution.
Hair band provides wigs to poor and financially weak patients who suffer from short term and long term hair loss due to various medical conditions. They do this by organizing hair donation events around the country. The wigs are supplied to patients who lose hair during treatments like chemotherapy, burn victims or people suffering from other dermatological conditions.
The current campaign mainly focuses on college and school students, to create cancer awareness and encourages them to help these patients in a novel way.
The event will be inaugurated by Dr. Sasangan Ramanathan, Dean-Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Poojaniya Swami Thapasyamrita will grace the occasion and Professor P. Jayaram, Department Chair, will address the gathering.
