ASE, Bengaluru, hosts ‘ENERGON’ an Energy Conservation Week

ENERGON is an energy conservation week organised by IEEE PES and IAS combined student chapter of Amrita school of Engineering, Bengaluru, on October 24-28, 2016. This event was designed to inform students about the importance of energy, and energy issues and conservation in an interactive and engaging manner.

The first event was Circuitrix, a basic electrical circuit analysis competition held on October 24, 2016. In this event students were given 10 circuits and asked to debug or analyze them within 1 hour. This event was organised to test  basic circuit knowledge of the students. Sixty students from all departments attended this event.

The second day of ENERGON was M. U. S. T. (Make your Statement)a panel discussion organised on October 25, 2016. In this Dr. Debjyothi Sahu, Asst. professor, Dept. Mechanical Engineering; Mr. Ullhas K., Asst. Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and Dr. Praveen Kumar, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Physics; were the panelists. Dr. Debjythi Sahu spoke about energy policies in India, followed by energy conservation in solar perspective by Dr. Ullhas. The discussion was concluded by Dr. Praveen with batteries in R. E. S. Fifty students from all departments attended the event.

The next event of ENERGON was Pitch it up, a student interactive event organised on October 26, 2016. In this event, students were given problems related to energy conservation faced in general life and were asked to come up with solutions.  They were judged on the basis of effectiveness in presentation, analysis of the problems and their solution.

S. U. P. (Save your Power), a talk on energy auditing, was organised on October 27, 2016.  Dr. Deepa K., Assistant Professor, Dept. of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, gave a lecture on energy auditing with the help of a case study of energy consumption in Railway Bhavan and various ways of tapping natural resources.

The fifth day of ENERGON was Eco Spark, a technical exhibition organized on October 28, 2016. Two projects were exhibited and demonstrated by students, one of them was on PV characteristics and the project was on automatic room lighting techniques.

The event reached many students and received positive feedback from them. The chapter plans to conduct the event yearly, to update students the importance of energy, current technical advancements in the field and energy preservation.
