ASB Coimbatore Faculty Member & Student Attend National Workshop on ‘Innovating Fish Market Chains for Urban Food Security’

Mr. Gopakumar V., the Faculty Associate, and Ms. Sneha Govindrajan, a student (Class of 2017) from Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore (ASB Coimbatore), attended the two-day national workshop on ‘Innovating Fish Market Chains for Urban Food Security’, held at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bengaluru from 11-12 February, 2017. The workshop was held as a part of ‘Fish for Food Security in City Regions of India and Ghana: An Interregional Innovation Project (FISH4FOOD)’.

FISH4FOOD is an international project investigating how the availability, accessibility, and affordability of fish can improve the food security of the inhabitants residing in the city regions of low and middle income countries (LMIC). For the purpose, the project studies the low-price fish chains that service low-income consumers in selected city regions of South Asia (India) and West Africa (Ghana).

It is a major research program funded by the NOW-WOTRO, Netherlands (Euro 750,000) and includes various international partners: the University of Amsterdam, University of Ghana, East Carolina University, WorldFish and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Amalendu Jyotishi, Professor from Amrita School of Business, Bengaluru campus, is the Performance Improvement Coordinator from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham for the project. Mr. Gopakumar, the Marketing Faculty at ASB Coimbatore, is a Research Scholar working for the project.

The workshop was held as a part of the second phase of the FISH4FOOD project. It brought together stakeholders from business, academia, NGOs, and policy makers. The workshop had three components: the fish value chain, urban planning and food security and innovations in business in reaching out to the urban poor. The workshop also devised the actions necessary for the next stage of the project. Mr. Gopakumar chaired the session on ‘Innovations in Business in reaching out to the Urban Poor’.
