Amrita Students Win Prizes at 33rd Inter-University South Zone Youth Festival 2017 “Kalai Koodam”

The students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham won various prizes at the 33rd Inter-University South Zone Youth Festival 2017 “Kalai Koodam” held from December 18-22, 2017, organized by Hindustan University, Chennai in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. 

Kalai Koodam was a festival to showcase the integrated and diverse talents of the emerging youth of India in the field of arts and culture. Top students from 33 universities in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Tamil Nadu actively participated in the South Zone competitions. The competitions were judged by the AIU recognized judges.

The team from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham bagged the overall championship of Music Category in this event. In previous years, this championship usually went to universities which had dedicated music colleges or departments and therefore, it was a great achievement of the students.

  • Mr. Abhimanyu S. Kamat, Final Year, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri Campus, bagged first prize for Percussion Instrument;
  • Ms. Sai Jyothi, First Year, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amritapuri Campus, won second prize for Western Music Solo. 
  • Mr. Raguram, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Coimbatore Campus, won second prize for Western Instrument Solo
  • The group of students from Amritapuri Campus, comprising of Ms. Theertha V., Second Year, Department of Chemistry; Ms. Vedha P, Second Year, Department of Physics; Ms. Devika Pramod, Second Year, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Ms. Jyothisree K., First Year, Department of Computer Science and Engineering; Mr. S. Gowtham, First Year, Department of Mechanical Engineering; and Mr. Ashwin Sateesh, Third Year, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, won second prize for Group Music (Indian).
  • Mr. Nandan B, School of Biotechnology, Amritapuri Campus, Mr. Rejath R., Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bengaluru Campus, and Mr. Gogulnath, Department of Aerospace Engineering, Coimbatore Campus, won third prize at the quiz competition.

The winners will attend the National Youth Festival to be held at Ranchi University from 16th to 22nd February, 2018.
