Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, hosted Anokha 2017 on March 2-4, 2017. Anokha escalated the imagination of participants with over 10000+ footfalls, 75+ events, 30+ workshops, Lumiere premium lecture series showcasing success stories from all walks of life, TechexpoRecess-school outreach and a whopping 15 lakhs in prize money. The theme of Anokha 2017 was Innovation and the focus was on leveraging innovation for societal benefit.

Founded in 2010, Anokha has grown by leaps and bounds and has progressed to become one of the largest tech fests in South India. Anokha is the first and only techfest in India with United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) accreditation.

“Anokha aims to encourage engineering students globally to come together to display their fervor for science and technology. In just six years, it has become one of the top engineering tech-fests in India. I am confident that Anokha 2017 will emerge as yet another grand avenue to showcase and celebrate the innovation, ingenuity, teamwork and talent of engineering students,” said Dr. Sasangan Ramanathan, Dean of Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore.

For Anokha 2017, there were 75+ exciting and highly competitive contests and events in all branches of engineering, robotics, pitchfest, gaming, cubing and short-film making. Some of the popular events were Armageddon gaming; mayday; robowarz; full throttle; maze runner; cubing royale – Rubik’s cube; junkyards wars; Ideate – Pitchfest supported by Amrita TBI and epictures short film contest.

There were 30+ workshops by premier organizations and companies such as Amazon, Mathworks, Cisco, Ansys, National Instruments and IGCAR. The workshops were in cutting-edge areas such as Internet of Things, Bluetooth robotics, analytics, animatronics, ornithopter, parrot drones, social entrepreneurship, motor bike overhauling, etc.

The techfest also featured Techexpo with robo soccer, electric car by Robert Bosch, Indian airforce, Indian army, wildlife photography and departmental stalls including a parrot drone exhibit.

Another major highlight of Anokha 2017 was an extensive school outreach event titled Recess, where school children had the opportunity to participate in events such as cubing royale, drones competition, quiz and explore the techexpo.

Speakers for the Lumiere premier talk series included: Prof. Subbaram Naidu, Chair Professor, University of Minnesota and Former NASA scientist; Dr. Sylendra Babu, Additional Director General of Police – Tamil Nadu; Mr. C. K. Kumaravel, CEO, Naturals; Mr. Jithin Nedumula, founder of “Make a Difference” youth volunteer network; Mr. Thippeswamy S., wildlife photographer and first Indian fellow of Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. Judges for the Epictures event were acclaimed film director, Mr. Vijay Milton and cinematographer, Mr. M.S. Prabhu.

Attendees were treated to a spectacular entertainment spectacle, a scintillating Eventide Musical Show. It featured renowned playback singers, Vijay Prakash and Nikita Gandhi and keyboardist, Stephen Devassy, as well as performances by Ragasudha and Natyasudha, student clubs of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

The Anokha core committee consisted of faculty members, Prof. K. Gangadharan as advisor; Mr. M. Sreevalsan, Mr. Prashant R. Nair & Dr. K.V. Shriram as conveners, and students, Mr. Darshak Sundar and Mr. Vikram Seshadiri as technical and organizing chairs.
