Amrita Faculty Member Wins 2018 Society of Toxicology’s Travel Award

Dr. V. V. Pillay, Chief, Poison Control Centre, and Professor & Head, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, attended the 2018 Society of Toxicology’s 57th Annual Meeting held in San Antonio, Texas, USA, from March 11 – 15, 2018, where he was invited to receive the SOT (Society of Toxicology, USA) Endowment Fund / IUTOX (International Union of Toxicology) Travel Award. 

This travel award is given every year to selected recipients who have done outstanding work in the field of toxicology in a country where toxicology is underrepresented. Dr. Pillay was selected from India this year. In fact, he was the only toxicologist who was selected from Asia. 

The 2018 Society of Toxicology’s 57th Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas, USA, was attended by more than 6,500 toxicologists from all over the world, with more than 3,000 presenters who shared their research and expertise during the 170+ scientific sessions. 

Dr. Pillay’s daughter, Dr. Roshni, who is an aspiring toxicologist, had registered for the event as a delegate. Dr. Roshni was a student of Amrita School of Medicine and is now pursuing her MRCP.
