Amrita Engineering Students Participate in Training Programme on Cyber Forensics Challenges and Solutions

Amrita School of Engineering students Aarthy Devi A., Kalpana K., Krithika R., Lekshmi R. Krishnan, Moumita Roy and Vignesh, under the guidance of Ashok Kumar Mohan (Research Scholar), participated in the one day training programme on Cyber Forensics Challenges and Solutions organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kalasalingam University on 22nd October, 2016.

The training consisted of two sessions: theoretical session on Introduction to Cyber Crime, Cyber Law, Cyber Forensics and practical session on Cyber forensics tools (TrueBack, CyberCheck, FDaC, FRAn).

The lead trainer for the workshop was Dr. Balan, C-DAC Center Thiruvananthapuram. During the workshop, the participants learned about cybercrime, meaning any crime carried out through computers against organizations, people and countries. Investigation of digital evidence is carried out through cyber forensics. Cyber forensics includes various steps like identifying, extracting, preserving, analyzing, presenting and rules to be followed while taking the evidence.

The practical sessions were designed so that all the participants could study in detail the tools for good practice. The session included step by step explanations for taking the evidence using various tools like TrueBack, CyberCheck and FRaN and making the report on the evidence. Time was also allocated for discussions among participants concerning the evidence retrieval and report making. The students shared that they had gained a lot of specialized knowledge from the workshop.
