Amrita Cisco Academy Organizes Tech Fest

‘Netwarz 2009′ a two-day national-level technical fest was organized by the Amrita Cisco Academy in Bangalore on Oct 24 and 25, in collaboration with the School of Engineering on that same campus.
 

Nearly 200 students from about 10 colleges in South India participated. There were core events organized for the participants such as Packet Tracer Simulation, Logical Network Design and Networking Quiz.

In addition, fun events imaginatively named Quick-to-Click, Crimp-it-up and Infotainment (with Spot the Word, Terminological, Treasure Hunt) helped kindle the spirit of enquiry and learning among the participants.
 

Mr. Chandar Sundaram, Academic Lead, Microsoft was the Guest of Honor at the inaugural function. Mr. Arun Shetty, Regional Manager, Cisco Systems Engineering Departments was the invited Chief Guest. “Amrita’s Cisco Networking Academy at Bangalore was the first to start the CCNP course in Karnataka,” he noted. “Your students helped us during the inaugural function of the Cisco Globalization Center at Bangalore.”

The inaugural ceremony was followed by Mr. Shetty’s keynote speech on Connected Learning. “Technology can be used to solve problems faced by large universities,” he told the students. “One of the main concerns for institutions today is reducing administration costs while providing the latest infrastructure and facilities.”
 

There were seminars and workshops on areas such as Wireless Communication, Network Security, Cloud Computing, Windows Server 2008 and Internet Simulation. Mr. Kaliyan Selvaraj, the winner of Microsoft’s most valuable professional award, Mr. Neeraj, an Enterprise Architect for a Fortune 500 firm were some of the eminent speakers.
 

The fest also showcased the community launch of Windows 7 operating system. Windows 7 was first released on July 22 of this year and its general retail availability had only begun a few days earlier on October 22. Campus computers were upgraded to this operating system and in a symbolic gesture, keys of the original version were handed out.

The fest concluded with the distribution of prizes to all winners by Mr. Jagan Jothivel, Area Manager, Cisco Systems. Among those honored included students of the Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Mysore, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, Acharya College, Pondicherry as well as the host campus.
