AMMACHI Labs Conduct Workshop on Bhuvan

Amrita Multi Modal Applications Using Computer & Human Interaction (AMMACHI) Labs conducted an informative demonstration and workshop on the Bhuvan modules and apps with top experts on October 13, 2017, at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus. A three member team from the National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad, one of the prominent centers of Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO), conducted the one day workshop with faculty members and students from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

Bhuvan is an Indian geoplatform and online geoportal, which allows users to explore a 2D/3D representation of the surface of the Earth. The browser is specifically tailored to view India, offering the highest resolution in this region and providing content in four local languages. Bhuvan provides timely disaster support services, free satellite data and a products download facility with rich thematic datasets. It also acts as a platform for hosting government data.

Shri. S. S. Rajashekar, Head, Application Development, NRSC, led the first session, “Demonstration Bhuvan with emphasis on Data Visualisation, Data Download, Disaster Management Support and Consuming Bhuvan Web Services”. Shri. D. Giri Babu, Head, Bhuvan Systems, NRSC, presented “Development of Mobile Applications”. Later on, Ms. Sonal, Scientist, Bhuvan Systems, NRSC, led the final session on “ Demonstration on Bhuvan Platform and Development using APIs”.

At the Robotsavam 2017 Conference at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Shri. Somanath S. Director, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), ISRO, Indian Space Research Organisation, met with Rao R. Bhavani, Director, AMMACHI Labs, Amritapuri, and members from AMMACHI Labs and extended an invitation to visit the NSRC In Hyderabad. After a collaborative visit by Prof. Bhavani Rao and team from Amrita’s Center for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality with Dr. Y. V. N. Krishnamurthy, Director, NRSC, in Hyderabad, this one-day seminar and workshop, led by top experts, was proposed in October, following National Space Week.

Further collaborations between Bhuvan GIS Team and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham are in process. Web-GIS Bhuvan systems, data visualization, Bhuvan web services, and development of mobile applications are possible areas of collaboration and research which are in discussion.
