The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, will organize a Webinar on Distributed Generation – Challenges and Solutions on July 7, 2021.
As the yearly demand of electric energy increases, there is a significant increase in the penetration of distributed generation (DG) to fulfill this increase in demand. Integration of a DG into an existing distribution system has many impacts on the system. The integration of renewable energy into the power system can potentially cause severe challenges for the control and protection of large central generators and the distribution system. A careful design, planning, installation and operation of complex distribution systems with renewable energy resources ought to be carried out. In this context, electrical transmission and distribution play a significant role in transporting energy from the generator site to customers. The main focus of this webinar is to address the main challenges in integrating DG to the grid and some of the possible technical solutions to overcome this.
Dr. K. C. Sindhu Thampatty,completed BTech, M Tech and PhD from NIT Calicut (formerly known as REC Calicut). Joined Amrita in 1996. Presently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The research focus is on the grid stability issues in renewable integration, modeling and control of renewable integrated electrical power systems, Impact of distributed generation on the stability of electrical power systems and application of FACTS devices for the power system stability improvement.
