Prerequisite: Nil

Introduction Classification and components of bridges, historical perspective, layout and planning, investigations for Bridges, choice of type of the bridges, conceptual bridge design, bridge aesthetics. Bridge appurtenances. Loads on bridges loading standards for highway (IRC) – Analysis and design of RC and PSC bridge decks: slab culvert bridges, slab and beam bridges, load distribution in slabs and beams, bowstring girder bridges, behavior of skew bridge decks. Behavior, analysis and design of composite construction. Design of bearings, substructure and foundations piers and abutments of different types, shallow and deep foundations design and constructional aspects.-Modern methods of construction of concrete, steel and composite bridges, their impact on analysis and design.
