Prof. K. T. Moly, Principal, Amrita College of Nursing, Kochi welcomed all the dignitaries and the invitees. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Sampoojya Swami Purnamritananda Puri delivered the Benedictory Address.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. K. Reddamma, Nodal Officer, National Consortium for PhD in Nursing, Bangalore. In her inaugural address, she emphasized the importance of higher education in delivering quality patient care.
Following inauguration freshers offered a tribute to Chancellor Amma in the form of a devotional song “Vrindavanathile…Pullankuzhal…’. The Keynote Address was given by Dr. S. Krishnamoorthy Registrar, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
Prof. Anoopa K. R., Principal, Bishop Benzigar College of Nursing, Kollam and Sri. K. L. Mohanavarma, renowned writer and columnist, were the guests of honor. Sri. K. L. Mohanavarma pointed out the significance of good communication to alleviate the fear among patients regarding their disease condition by the nurses.
The release of college magazine, Kalochakal, was done by Dr. K. Reddamma and the first copy was handed over to Sri. K. L. Mohanavarma.
Dr. Prathapan Nair, Principal, Amrita School of Medicine honoured three faculty members of Amrita College of Nursing for their various achievements. Dr. Chitra P., Professor, Child Health Nursing and Dr. Lekha Viswanath, Associate Professor, Obstetrics and Gynaecologic Nursing were honoured for their PhD in Nursing. Prof. Sunil M., Professor, Child Health Nursing was honoured for winning the Dr. MIMS Award 2014, for “Best Health Education Initiative through Media.”
The BSc Nursing students had their symbolic service lamp lighted and MSc & Post Basic BSc graduates received code of ethics from nurse leaders. The BSc Nursing students took the nurses pledge from Prof. Sheela Pavithran, Vice Principal, Amrita College of Nursing.
Awards were distributed to the graduates and post graduates who excelled in their academics. Student representative of outgoing BSc Nursing batch, Ms. Steffy Jacob, spoke about their experience in Amrita College of Nursing. Prof. Sunil M. proposed the vote of thanks. The programs concluded with national anthem.
