The Four-year Undergraduate Programme as per the UGC Guidelines under NEP 2020 intends to provide opportunities that can enable the students to acquire competence in Journalism and Mass Communication using Communication Technologies, digital technologies, computational methods, and other skills essential to participate in the knowledge economy. There are Discipline Specific core courses as well as the optional Discipline specific elective courses, Skill enhancement courses, Ability enhancement courses, Value added courses, Generic electives, Internships and Dissertation, in the given programme.
Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication degree may be awarded to the students who exit in the third year and the students who secure a grade point of 7.5 CGPA and above at the end of the third year and choose to continue for the fourth year may be awarded B.A (Honours) / B.A (Honours with Research) in Journalism and Mass Communication at the completion of the fourth year of the UG Programme. To ensure quality, students should meet the minimum criteria of 7.5 CGPA to continue studies in the fourth year of the Undergraduate Programme leading to bachelor’s degree (Hons.) with Research.
The programme will enable students to articulate ideas effectively in various journalistic formats such as news stories, features, documentaries, interviews. The courses designed will foster a deep understanding of media, its role in society, and the ability to critically analyse media content. And equip students with research methodologies and reporting techniques necessary for gathering and presenting information accurately. The intensive curriculum and syllabi drafted in accordance with the industry standard will provide skills in multimedia storytelling, including proficiency in audio, video, and digital media. This Programme will prepare students for the dynamic nature of the media industry, encouraging adaptability and innovative thinking.

The Programme offers an in-depth study of the subject, covering broad areas of Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Laws, Narrative Documentary, Contemporary Society, New Media, Digital Technology, Photography, Graphic Designing, Videography, News Making.
Students will have the flexibility to broaden their horizons by opting for open elective courses, allowing them to explore diverse subjects beyond the core curriculum.
Students will be benefitted with the experiential learning through outcome-based projects, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, fostering practical skills and a comprehensive understanding of journalism and mass communication.
The student will also be involved in rigorous critical thinking and in-depth research through the research paper writing and dissertation exercises towards various aspects of Journalism and Mass Communication.
The programme will prepare students for a variety of careers and attune them to take up PhD, or teaching in higher education.
In the seventh semester/ Final Year, students have the unique opportunity to specialize in their chosen area of interest, selecting between two distinctive tracks: 1. BA Journalism and Mass Communication (Honours) and 2. BA Journalism & Mass Communication with Research.
