Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham started as Engineering Campus in the suburb of Ettimadai, Coimbatore in August 1994.

AMMA deputed Brahmachari Abhayamrita Chaitanya, now the Chief Operating Officer of the University to establish this first ever campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

Brahmachari Abhayamrita Chaitanya has been instrumental in transforming what was once a barren and inaccessible land to a sprawling 400-acre wooded campus at the foothills of Western Ghats, and is now considered as one of most beautiful campuses in this part of the world.

The Amrita campus in Ettimadai has transformed the entire cluster of surrounding villages by providing education from primary schools up-to professional levels, as well as employment opportunities to a large percentage of rural population, thereby, transforming the entire rural area into a vibrant region.
