The IT and Business Process outsourcing phenomena has resulted in the cementing of strong relationships between business entities in the US and India in the recent past. The business relationships are in turn fostering increasing collaboration between governmental and business organizations among the two countries. Both countries are vulnerable to and face constant threats of cyber-crime that impede effective business continuity planning. It has been predicted that India will experience increasing contributions to global cyber-crime threats. Given the strong relationships between US and India, it is imperative that academics, business professionals and governmental entities collaborate to effectively thwart increasing threats of global cyber-crime and initiate cyber security defenses.

This workshop will discuss comparative issues in the two countries to leverage ICTs for cyber security and privacy. It will focus on:

Identifying opportunities to integrate research, practice and educational efforts in the two countries.

Share expertise and knowledge in the areas of social behavioural and technical approaches to cyber security, cryptography, wireless and network security, medical data security and privacy and data security and privacy among others.

The workshop is scheduled to be held on August 19, 2009 and is sponsored by the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum.

The workshop will integrate researchers with extensive research interests in cyber-security and e-government issues and senior administrators and practitioners with related interests. The objective of the workshop is to encourage development of research agendas of practical and novel approaches, techniques, methods, practices, and systems that can contribute to knowledge in this important emerging area. Workshop members will address issues of relevance to the domains of information sharing, data mining or collaboration systems, and applicability to cyber crime. They will assess the organizational challenges and policy constraints that could act as barriers or enablers for implementing counter-measures to cyber-crime and digital divide.
