Physical Facilities

The Amrita School of Education is situated on a serene five acre campus in Mysore, which it shares with the Amrita School of Arts and Sciences (ASAS). It boasts modern physical facilities, most of which are only five years old, and state-of-the-art technology.

ASE is situated in spacious four-story building of about 3200 square meters, which contains methods rooms, laboratories, an automated library, computer room, lecture hall and offices.

It has a spacious Lecture Hall with dais seating 150 with modern facilities to conduct conferences, meditation sessions and other medium-sized events. There is also a slightly smaller 110-seat Seminar Hall. For larger events, ASE shares a 500-seat Auditorium with ASAS. There is also an Activity Room for Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) which seats 30.

Residential students live in hostels, one for boys and one for girls, which are shared with ASAS. Students are supported by a canteen and general store, also shared with ASAS.

Library and Reading Room

An automated Library and spacious Reading Room which support the ASE mission. The library contains over 4000 books, numerous magazines and journals, CDs, DVDs and cassettes. It is staffed by a Librarian with a Masters degree in Library Science and is open almost 12 hours per day. Many facilities are provided by the library, including clipping, photocopying, computer and internet access, an online access facility and inter-library borrowing.

Biology and Chemistry Laboratory

Student teachers collect and preserve specimens for Biology classes as well as carrying out Biology and Chemistry experiments related to the secondary school syllabus.

Computer Laboratory

There is a well-equipped computer laboratory for students, featuring 12 computers with 15-inch monitors, 40 GB hard drives, a LAN facility and Microsoft Office software. There are five other computers on the campus which serve the administration, staff and the library. All computers have an uninterrupted power supply and high-speed internet access through BSNL Broadband. Each student is allocated 2 hours of computer lab time per week. Additional time is available after hours for a fee.

The School ensures that all student teachers are technologically competent through a mandatory Computer Education course.

Educational Psychology Laboratory

The Education Psychology Laboratory is well-equipped with many psychological testing(??) tools and apparatus which are used by the teacher educators and student teachers when the relevant theory is studied.

Language Laboratory

Here, student teachers learn the skills of English and Kannada using the equipment in the language lab. They not only improve their language skills, but also acquire the skills required to use a language lab.

Mathematics and Physics Laboratory

Practical hands-on classes related to high school Mathematics and Chemistry are conducted in this laboratory. Student teachers learn lab maintenance and arrange the lab for practicums, and rehearse the experiments they plan to use in practice teaching.

Social Science Resource Room

The Social Science Resource Room contains maps, globes, portraits of great historians, models of historical monuments and other relevant equipment. It is used by student teachers during microteaching and practice teaching.

Audio Visual Room

The Audio Visual (AV) Room contains all the latest AV equipment a teacher might use to enhance their class presentations. This includes an LCD projector, digital camera, overhead projector, television, VCD player, radio and amplifier, cassette recorders, record player, microphones, headphones, collar mike with wireless set, computer fax/scanner/printers and telephones with STD and intercom facilities.

Sports Facilities and Room

ASE has one multipurpose field with volleyball, throw ball and shuttle badminton courts shared with ASAS. The equipment room has equipment for both indoor and outdoor games and is open 11 hours per day.
