The 400 acre campus is well planned. The campus is
developed in and around the academic buildings with
infrastructure facilities like hostels, staff-quarters and play
grounds. The water & electricity departments along with
other supporting departments always make sure that the
campus is active without interruptions. The departmental
offices, classrooms, laboratories and library have a built-up
area of over 6,20,000 sq.ft. The student hostels and
amenities are spread over completed buildings of area
around 7,00,000 sq.ft. Staff quarters have built-up area
1,80,000 sq.ft. A swimming pool meeting Olympic standards
is commissioned. Two powerhouses are installed with total
generator capacity of 1750 KVA, ensuring uninterrupted
power supply in the campus round the clock.
Higher education at Amrita entered a new
dimension with the ISRO satellite network
connecting the four campuses in three
states. This high bandwidth satellite
network has made Amrita University a fully
interactive, multimedia capable, multidisciplinary
virtual university. Now, students
at any of the Amrita campuses can ‘attend’,
and interact in lectures taking place in the
other campuses.
Separate hostel facilities are provided for
girls and boys. Students are provided with
adequate facilities to make them feel at
home. Their stay in the hostel enables them
to imbibe a different lifestyle and involve in
activities including yoga, meditation, sports,
music, etc., catering to individual tastes and
preferences in addition to regular studies.
There are seven hostels spread around the
main buildings of the institute which
presently accommodate around 2500
inmates. Postgraduate students and final
year undergraduate students are allotted
single rooms.
Pure vegetarian food prepared under
hygienic conditions is served in the student
dining halls and the canteens from a central
canteen.
Computing facility
The twelve computer centres of ASE are designed, laid out
and equipped so scientifically that students can spend hours
together at the terminal on one : one basis without fatigue.
This includes the state-of-the-art CAD/CAM center, high end
VLSI Design Center and an exclusive Digital Signal Processing
lab. The exclusive CAD/CAM center has more than 70
workstations, CNC Milling machine and CNC turning machine
along with an Industrial Robot. The software include I-DEAS,
ProE, CATIA, Unigraphics, ANSYS, ADAMS, MoldFlow, Autodesk
Inventor Series, SolidEdge, Hyperworks, LS-DYNA, CADian etc.
The VLSI center has more than 80 High end Computers with
Softwares such as Magma, ModelSim, LeonardoSpectrum, XILINX
ISE etc.
There is a Centralised Digital Library -
VIDYA accessible across the Amrita Campuses.
Virtual Campus and E-learning Center
of Excellence
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has the unique distinction of
being the nation’s first of its kind – fully interactive, multidisciplinary,
multi-media, virtual campus without
geographical limitations linking all its campuses. The
satellite network for education and research that links all
the campuses of the university has been enabled through
a unique Public-Private-Academia Partnership linking the
core competences of Amrita University, ISRO and Cognizant
Technology Solutions. Cadence Design Systems, one of the largest Electronic Design and Automation (EDA) companies in the
world is a leading technology partner in this venture. The satellite
network has facilitated leading experts from around the world like
Dr. Madhavan Nair, ISRO Chairman; Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Co-Founder
of Infosys Technologies; Dr. Bharat Jayaraman, Chair of Computer
Science, State University or New York, Buffalo, USA; Tata Consultancy
Services CEO, Mr. S. Ramadorai; Mr. A. Bhaskarnarayana, Indian National
Satellite System, ISRO, Bangalore; Mr. J. Murali, JMD of the Hindu;
Mr. Swapan Dasgupta, noted columnist and TV personality and Intel
India Chief, Mr. Ketan Sampath to have academic interaction Live
from a single Center to students, academicians and researchers at
other campuses. It has enabled an integration and synergy at Amrita
campuses – between Engineering, Management, Journalism and IT
at Coimbatore, Amritapuri & Bangalore campuses and Medicine,
Pharma, Nursing and Dentistry at Kochi campus.
Sports Facilities
Coimbatore Campus has facilities for outdoor and indoor
games like Shuttle badminton, Ball badminton, Cricket,
Football, Table tennis, Weight lifting, Basketball, Volleyball,
and Tennikoit. One state-of-the art synthetic tennis court
and a cement tennis court are also available. A multi-gym
consisting of eight stations and bodybuilding equipment is
also provided for practice. A swimming pool of international
standards of the size 50 x 25 is fully functional.
Each hostel has a separate sports room. Students are given
opportunities to participate in various tournaments. An Annual
Sports and athletic meet is held every year.
