Since 1993, Amma has been increasingly recognized by the international community as a treasured repository of practical spiritual wisdom, who has the capacity to guide the world towards a better, brighter future. Los Angeles Commends AMMA
AMMA was welcomed to Los Angeles with the presentation of an official commendation signed by the city’s Mayor and the City Council. She was also officially welcomed by the Deputy of Health, Richard Espinosa, and the Field Deputy, Joe Matthews.

   

AMMA addresses the World Women's Conference

Amma addressed a gathering of women religious and spiritual leaders at a summit in Jaipur today: “Making Way for the Feminine for the Benefit of the World Community.” The event was organized by the Global Peace Initiative of Women. In her address, “The Infinite Potential of Women,” Amma called on the need for women and men to come together in unity, accepting, respecting and valuing each other’s differences. “Alienating women from matters of finance and politics is to discard half of the intellect and strength of society,” Amma said.

     

Cinema Verite Honours AMMA

The renowned French film organization Cinema Verite is presened Amma with an award in acknowledgement of her role as a force for world peace and harmony. Cinema Verite focuses on creating awareness regarding human-rights issues through film. The function is being held in La Bastille, Paris.

Upon Amma's arrival in Chile, She was officially welcomed at the Casa de Moneda Presidential Palace by none other than the President of Chile herself, Michelle Bachelet. Bachelet (Chile's first woman president) met with Amma for nearly 40 minutes, saying upon the beginning of their meeting that she also enjoys hugging people when she meets them, but that she did not have the stamina to hug stadiums full of people like Amma. She also said that AMMA is not so much into religion , but she is into humanism and that's what attracted her to AMMA and appreciated what AMMA had been doing for the poor.

 
     

Finnish Government Honours Amma

On behalf of the Government of Finland, the Honourable Cultural Minister, Tanja Saarela, welcomed Amma to Helsinki. In her speech, the honourable Minister Tanja said, "Globalisation as such is neither good nor bad, but there is a need for examples against greed and uncaring behaviour. A good example of this is Amma's wide-ranging work for the poor, the sick, and those who have suffered in the natural disasters.

 
     

New York's Interfaith Centre's Award for AMMA

Amma was presented with the Interfaith Center of New York’s 4th Annual James Parks Morton Interfaith Award. The Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY) bestowed the award upon Amma for her outstanding role as a spiritual leader and humanitarian, citing in specific her Ashram’s massive relief work in the wake of the 2004 tsunami. As part of the award ceremony, Amma delivered an address on intra-religious understanding and collaboration.

 
     

LA County presents Award to Amma

On behalf of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors (of five districts) Ms. Lorie Bell and Ms. Leila Sharma presented the award to Amma during her program at the halls of Hilton Hotel, Los Angeles. As Amma entered the hall this evening, Ms. Yolanda King, d/o Martin Luther King Jr.II performed the padapuja.

 
     

Canadian Government honours AMMA

Dr. Ruby Dhalla, Member of Parliament for the riding of Brampton-Springdale, welcomed Amma to Canada for the second time. Dr. Dhalla, who is the youngest women to have ever been elected to the Canadian Parliament, began by saying that she was honoured to be in the presence of Amma, not only as an MP and on behalf of the Government, but as also as an individual.

 
     

Rotary Legend Award to AMMA

Amma was being honoured with Rotary International's Centenary Legendary Award for Service to Humanity, International Understanding & Peace at the Le Meridian Hotel in Cochin. "Who are we to offer an award to Amma?" said C.M. Abu Bakker, the Ernakulam Rotary District Governor. "We simply submit it at Her feet and pray that She blesses this organisation. It is this organisation that benefits from Amma accepting this award."

 
     

Amma at World the Parliament of Religions, Barcelona, Spain

Amma first graced the platform of the Parliament of the World’s Religions in 1993. Providence was not content to crown Amma with glory just once. It chose the 2004 Parliament to reveal to the world, yet again, Her divine wisdom. Amma had been eagerly sought-after as a speaker for the closing plenary of this year’s Parliament, organized by the Council of the Parliament of the World’s Religions (CPWR), the Universal Forum of Cultures—Barcelona 2004, and the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia.

 
     

Amma receives the Gandhi-King Award for Non-violence at the UN in Geneva.

Amma was the keynote speaker at The Global Peace Initiative of Women Religious and Spiritual Leaders, at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The conference was held in October 2002, and was an initiative of The United Nations' Millennium World Peace Summit, at which Amma spoke in August 2000. mma was presented with the 2002 Gandhi-King Award for Non-Violence at the United Nations General Assembly Hall (Palais Des Nations) in Geneva in recognition of Her lifelong work in furthering the principles of non-violence.

 
     

World Peace Summit, United Nations - New York, 2000

Amma was an invited guest speaker at the Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders held at the United Nations in New York on in August of 2000. The opening ceremonies of the Millennium World Peace Summit included prayers from the world's pre-eminent religious leaders. When the Secretary General of the Summit, Mr. Bawa Jain, requested Amma to grace the assembly with Her prayers, She led the entire assembly in prayers for the peace and happiness for all beings in all worlds.

 
     

Amma at the 50th Anniversary of The United Nations, 1995

In 1995, Amma was invited to speak at the United Nations Conference on Visions for the 21st Century, timed to coincide with the 50th Anniversary Summit of the United Nations. The Temple of Understanding and the Council of Religious and Interfaith Organisations sponsored this conference, a forum for religious leaders, diplomats, NGOs, and educators to present their visions for the next century. A conference statement was presented to the UN while the 50th Anniversary Summit was still in session.

 
     

The Parliament of the World's Religions - 1993

The first Parliament of the World's Religions was held in Chicago in 1893. The centenary of the first Parliament of the World's Religions was held, also in Chicago, from August 28 to September 4, 1993. Over 6500 delegates, representing approximately 125 of the world's religions participated in the grand Parliament; among them were approximately 600 world spiritual leaders. Amma was chosen as one of three presidents to represent the Hindu faith.
